COORDINATOR: THOMAS PAPADOPOULOS

Dr. Thomas Papadopoulos is a Lecturer in Business Law at the Department of Law of the University of Cyprus
(appointed in January 2016). Previously, he was also a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School (2009-10). He received his DPhil in Law from the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford (2010). He received a degree of Magister Juris (MJur/LLM, 2006) and a degree of MPhil in Law (2007) from the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. He also received his LLB with Distinction (ranked 1st) from the Department of Law, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2005). He is an alumnus of the Anatolia American College of Thessaloniki (2001). He is also
a Visiting Professor at the International Hellenic University (Thessaloniki, Greece), at the Open University of Cyprus (Nicosia, Cyprus) and at the Hellenic Open University (Patras, Greece). Moreover, he is an Editorial Secretary of the European Company Law (ECL) Journal published by Kluwer Publications. He is also an Attorney at law (Greece).

He was awarded the "Cyprus Research Award-Young Researcher (2014)" of the Research Promotion Foundation of the
Republic of Cyprus (category of 'Social Sciences & Humanities'). This distinction was awarded on the basis of his research on Takeovers and Mergers and was accompanied by a research grant. He is the Project Coordinator of the Research Project "Takeovers and Mergers in European, Cypriot and Greek Company Law", which is financed by the Research Promotion Foundation of the Republic of Cyprus.

Previously, he was a Lecturer (2011-15) and an Assistant Professor (2015) in Commercial Law at the Department of Law of the European University Cyprus. He was an adjunct lecturer at the Department of Regional Economic Development, University of Central Greece.
During his studies, he was Scholar of the A.G. Leventis Foundation, Scholar of the University of Oxford, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Scholar(Scholarships of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affars), Scholar of the Despotidou-Tsagka Foundation, Greece and Scholar of the Greek Foundation of State Scholarships(IKY). He was a part-time law lecturer at the Law School, University of Buckingham and a law tutor at the Oxford University Programme for Undergraduate Studies(OPUS), University of Oxford. He also taught at the
Department of Statistics and Insurance Science, University of Piraeus. Additionally, he was Academic Student Coordinator of the Financial Law
Discussion Group, Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. Moreover, he acted as an assistant Legal Advisor (LEGAD) for the NATO Deployable Corps Headquarter at Thessaloniki, Greece (NDC-GR). He participated in workshops of the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange instrument (TAIEX) managed by the Directorate-General Enlargement of the European Commission.

He is the author of the following monograph published by Kluwer: Thoma Papadopoulos 'EU Law and the Harmonization of Takeovers in the Internal Market', European Monographs Series, 2010, (Kluwer). His articles were published in many top international law journals.

RESEARCHERS

THEODOROS TROKANAS
(ON BEHALF OF PARTNER INSTITUTION)

Theodoros Trokanas was born in Thessaloniki. He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in
2000. He holds a Master's degree in "Human rights and protection of humanity" in a private law specialty from the University of Burgundy in Dijon (France) (2003) as well as a Phd in Civil Law from the Faculty of Law of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2011). He has been a practising lawyer since 2002, a member of the Bar Association of Thessaloniki. From 2011 to 2013 he taught courses in Civil Law at the Department of Accounting and Finance of the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki.
He currently holds the post of lecturer at the School of Law of European University of Cyprus (Nicosia), where he teaches courses in General Principles of Civil Law, Family Law, Law of Succession and Medical Law. He is also a visiting professor at the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program "Contemporary medical acts: Legal Regulation and Bioethical Dimension" of the Departments of Medicine and Dentistry, the School of Law and the Department of Theology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is the author of the books "Human reproduction, Individual autonomy and its limits" (Sakkoulas Publications, 2011) and "The Cypriot Law on Medically Assisted Reproduction" (Sakkoulas Publications, 2016). He has an excellent command of English, French and a good command of German and Spanish.

KATERINA NIKOLAIDOU

Katerina, a CEDR (UK) accredited Mediator, received an LLB and a BA in History and Archaeology from the University of Cyprus, while she holds an MA in European Studies from KU Leuven (Belgium). She is the Head of the Communication Office at the Rectorate of the University of Cyprus and a part time researcher at EU legal programs. She was teaching the subject "English Legal Terminology" at the undergraduate Law program of a Private University in Cyprus and she was appointed as a part time Lecturer at the  LLM program in international business and commercial law  of  the University of West London.

She has a keen interest in Science Communication and Promotion of Research, a subject she has spoken on at international workshops. In 2011 she was appointed by the Network of Universities of Capitals of Europe(UNICA) as the Chair of its International Working Group on Communication and Public Relations. 

 
JULIANA GEORGALIDOU
 
Juliana Georgallidou is a graduate from the Faculty of Law of University of Cyprus (LLB, 2016) with Distinction (ranked 1st). She holds a Master's Degree in Corporate Law from the University of Cambridge (MCL, 2017, First Class) and has been granted the Corpus Christi
Award for Outstanding Performance. Currently, she is embarking on her training contract in Cyprus in order to become a member of the Bar Association and qualify as a Lawyer. During her undergraduate studies, she participated in the White & Case International Rounds of the 2015 Philip Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (Washington, 2015) and Model United Nations Competition (Rome 2014, 1st place 'Debate Champion'). She has also published articles in the Oxford University Commonwealth Law Journal, Cyprus Bar Association "Nomiko Vima" and in the University of Cyprus Law Journal.
 
LOUIZA KOFINA
 
Louiza was born in Limassol, Cyprus. She is a lawyer and a member of the Cyprus Bar Association. She received her LLB (ranked 1st) from
the Faculty of Law of University of Cyprus in 2015. She has been awarded with the «President of the House of Representatives» award for outstanding academic performance. She holds a training certificate in «Law and Economics» from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and in «Copyright Law» from Harvard University. She will continue her studies at the Open University of Cyprus where she will persuade a master's degree in European Union Law, specialization in European Competition Law.
 
ATHINA PATERA
 
Athina Patera was born in Limassol in 1995. She received her LLB with distinction from the Law Faculty of the University of Cyprus in 2017 and she will continue her studies at the University of Cambridge where she will persuade a master's degree in Corporate Law (MCL). During her studies at the University of Cyprus she was interested in legal issues and controversies regarding Corporate Law and as a result she submitted a dissertation at her final year of studies, named "Corporate Liability and Protection of third Parties" where she focused on the contractual liability of a company and the protection of people dealing with the company. Furthermore, her interest in diplomacy and international relations prompted her to participate in two Model United Nations Conferences held in Rome in 2014 and in Thessaloniki in 2015. As a result of her participation in NMUN Europe in Rome, she received an "Outstanding Position Paper" award. She also held the position of the treasurer at the Board of Cyprus Youth DiplomaCY for the period 2015-2017.
