Welcome Message

Welcome to the website of the research project "The effect of two interactive-dynamic resources on elementary students' ability in transformational geometry". This research project falls under the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation's Framework Programme for Research, Technological Development and Innovation 2009 -2010 (DESMI 2009-2010), co-funded by the Republic of Cyprus and the European Regional Development Fund (Grant:PENEK/0609/57). This website is part of the research project's dissemination of results.

The theme of the research project is about the learning of transformational geometry concepts in elementary school, and the possible effects that different computer software for teaching geometry may have on this ability.

The main objectives of the project are:

a) to investigate the development of 5th and 6th grade elementary school students' ability in transformational geometry concepts (translations, reflections and rotations),

b) to explore the effect of two different interactive-dynamic educational resources on their learning of transformational geometry and

c) to explore this effect specifically on different types of students, with individual differences namely in spatial abilities and cognitive style.

The co-coordinator of the research project is

Dr Demetra Pitta-Pantazi
Associate Professor of Mathematics Education
